Shroud fog & other vegetables.

How do you think I should handle shroud & fog in my RTS? I was thinking of some original way not seen before: there are three groups, zealots (bad), inventors (neutral) and undead (good!) for the undead, I was planning to do that anything not in line of sight will be shrouded 'till they build radar (called court of souls) and once they build radar, any source of energy (undead units & structures, magical units & structures, a certain resource, any magiced unit structure or tile) will appear on map & mini map and of course their line of site for units and structures would also appear - this uses no fog of war and areas explored holding no energy would not be recorded on map, is this good? also I was thinking for the inventors to make a radar called "radar" which, like a real radar, detect movement and large objects and line of sight, is this one good? if you like niether, do you have any idea? maybe use the same radar as in RA or W2?
