The game is great!

Posted by Bjerver on 09/15/98 16:06:23:

Ok, I got the game today and was prepared for the worst, since Iīve read a lot of junk about it.
But I loved Dune2, so I did not hesitate about buying this game, and Iīm very pleased with that.
The game rocks! And the cutscenes are some of the best Iīve seen. It seems to me that Westwood
is way ahead of Blizzard when it comes to cutscenes and 3d animation. Just watch the intro, this
is fullscreen, perfect quality. And real actors!
I donīt understand all the people complaining, I will try to answer some of the usual
complaints here:

"The game looks just like RA, but on sand!"
If someone says this, he must be either blind, or he hasnīt played RA for a great while.
The graphics is lightyears beyond RA, and this is not an enhanced RA engine.
Ok, the interface is mainly the same, but hey! Why change something that is good?

"The game is unplayable, because itīs so slow"
????
Either you have a really slow computer, or you have set the game speed to slowest.
I actually think the game is sometimes too fast, an enemy tank can squish all your infantry in seconds.

"the game is just like dune 2"
Now this was the intention, wasnīt it? To keep the Dune 2 atmosphere with new graphics and interface?
And besides, many of the units are actually completely new units with the old names, like Siege tank and Quad

Ok, I canīt remember more complaints nows, but that doesnīt matter... the game is fun! thatīs what matters!
The team has really managed to keep the Dune atmosphere, if you have read the books,
you will recall many names and concepts from them, like the names of the mentats and leaders, except
for Ordos, of course, and the places (Sieth Tabr, the names of all the multiplay maps). Actually, I think someone who hasnīt read the books will not get the most out of it.
